Salesforce Acquires Informatica in $8 Billion Bid to Strengthen AI and Data Capabilities

Salesforce to Acquire Informatica in $8 Billion Deal to Boost AI Capabilities

Salesforce has inked a definitive agreement to acquire data management firm Informatica in a deal valued at roughly $8 billion, marking one of its most significant acquisitions since buying Slack in 2021.

Under the terms of the deal, Informatica shareholders will receive $25 per share in cash—a premium of about 11% over the company’s recent closing price. The transaction, which has already received approval from both companies’ boards and major shareholders representing approximately 63% of Informatica’s voting power, is slated to close early in Salesforce’s fiscal year 2027, pending regulatory approval.

This acquisition is a strategic play by Salesforce to deepen its data and AI portfolio. Informatica, headquartered in Redwood City, California, offers cutting-edge cloud-based tools for data integration, governance, cataloging, and metadata management. By incorporating these capabilities into its ecosystem, Salesforce aims to power more robust AI features across platforms like its Agentforce product.

The acquisition will be financed through a mix of cash reserves and newly issued debt. Salesforce expects the deal to contribute positively to its adjusted earnings, free cash flow, and operating margin starting in its second year post-closure.

Originally taken private in 2015 in a $5.3 billion deal, Informatica returned to public markets in 2021. This new chapter under Salesforce’s umbrella is poised to reshape how enterprises harness and manage their data in the age of AI.
