Coinbase Launches Web3 Super App Merging DeFi, Social, and AI

Coinbase has officially debuted its revamped Base App, a reimagined version of the Coinbase Wallet, signaling a bold leap toward building a crypto-native “super app” for the West. Launched in beta on July 16, 2025, the Base App combines trading, payments, social media, mini-apps, and AI—all in one streamlined interface powered by the Base Layer-2 blockchain.

A standout feature is the social feed modeled after TikTok, where users can post, engage, and earn. Every post is tokenized using Zora, allowing followers to collect or tip content creators. Unlike traditional platforms, no follower minimums are needed to start monetizing—users are incentivized through weekly rewards and on-chain activity.

Integrated directly into the social experience are crypto trading tools, including spot markets, perpetuals, staking, and swaps. These are made frictionless thanks to Base’s ultra-fast infrastructure and 200-millisecond block times through its “Flashblocks” upgrade.

Payments are also a central focus. The new Base Pay feature enables tap-to-pay functionality using NFC technology, allowing instant USDC transfers with no fees. Early retail integration includes Shopify, where users can pay with Base and receive cashback, eliminating card processing costs for merchants.

The app also introduces a growing ecosystem of mini-dApps, which users can access within the feed—ranging from games and marketplaces to DeFi tools and prediction apps. Encrypted messaging via XMTP supports in-chat transfers and communication, while the built-in “Based Agent” AI assistant helps users manage transactions, monitor assets, and more.

Tying everything together is the Base Account—a universal identity layer for signing into Web3 services—and seamless checkout tools for merchants and developers. Backed by Coinbase’s growing Base ecosystem, now with over 32 million wallets and $4 billion bridged, this app aims to become the all-in-one portal to the on-chain economy.
